SM&B successfully advise Alex Reid in his defamation case against Kent Online

Today, the owners of Kent Online have issued an apology in court to Alex Reid over an allegation that he had attempted to hack his ex-wife’s phone, the model Katie Price.

Mr Reid sued the website for defamation, following an article, entitled ‘Katie Price’s phone hacked from Sittingbourne’, published in October 2017.

Kent Online accepted that the article could have been understood by readers to mean that Mr Reid was the person responsible for attempting to hack his ex-wife’s phone. It was also accepted that this impression would be entirely false.

Kent Online agreed to pay costs and damages to Mr Reid. They stated on their website:

“We apologise to Mr Reid for … any hurt or distress caused to him as a consequence and have agreed to pay costs and damages to Mr Reid.”

Well done to our SMB team, Partner Jeff Smele and Associate Enfys Jenkins, who were instructed on this case, and also to 5RB’s Chloe Strong who represented Mr Reid in court.
