A big part of what makes SM&B different from other law firms is our work for social enterprises, charities and civil liberties. We have a long history of advising those who might otherwise not have access to legal representation and advice.
We have long campaigned in the area of civil liberties and brought our legal expertise to bear on some of the most difficult and contentious of cases.
We are known for the protection and promotion of international human rights and in particular for our appellate work before the Privy Council. The Death Penalty Project, an independent charity housed and supported by SM&B, provides free legal representation to individuals facing the death penalty around the world, primarily in the Commonwealth.
We are innovative in the financing options we have created to enable less well-off clients to access legal advice and take a case forward when it would otherwise be impossible for them.
