Ofcom’s latest Broadcast Bulletin (20 November 2017) contains decisions about important TV compliance matters from due impartiality (involving Labour MP for Bethal Green and Bow, Rushanara Ali), to a breach of the election rules on General Election day on 8 June, to an intriguing Ofcom privacy determination about BBC3 programme How Police Missed the Grindr Killer. This documentary was about Stephen Port, convicted in 2016 for “date-raping” and murdering four young gay men in London within 15 months of each other, and featured images from a gay website including four unobscured photographs of the complainant (Mr G).
Our Consultant, ex-Ofcom executive Trevor Barnes, comments on the compliance lessons to be learnt from this Bulletin in his new blog.
