Erica Henshilwood and Jeffrey Smele speak to Getty Images on evolution of harassment and privacy laws

On 24 March Erica Henshilwood and Jeffrey Smele gave a talk to Getty Images staff – which included photographers, editorial staff and in-house lawyers – to update them on developments arising out of recent privacy, data protection and harassment cases involving photographers and tabloids. The talk focused specifically on the increase in the number and type of privacy and harassment claims by celebrities and public figures to prevent the taking and publication of photographs of them and their families, and in particular the Weller v Associated Newspaper High Court and Court of Appeal cases.

The talk involved a high level of practical advice on the limitations for photographers when taking photographs of public figures/celebrities, as well as for the photo desk staff when determining what photographs to publish and/or sell to other publications.
