Employment Law Weekly News Update

SM&B’s weekly news update including:

• An ET decides that Uber drivers are not self-employed people as Uber claimed, but in fact ‘workers’ within the meaning of the Working Time Regulations, the National Minimum Wage Act and the Employment Rights Act.
• The BEIS Committee has launched an inquiry into the future world of work and the status and rights of agency workers, the self-employed, and those working in the ‘gig economy’.
• Acas have published a new guide providing advice and guidance on the rights applying to the protected characteristics of marriage and civil partnership in the Equality Act 2010.
• The Department for Work and pensions have published new plans to help more people with long term health conditions get back into their jobs faster and for longer.
