Employment Law Weekly News Update – 7 December 2017

In this edition:

• The EAT holds that by not giving an employee the real reason for dismissal to try and “soften the blow”, the employer misled him, and this breach of trust and confidence gave rise to an entitlement to damages.
• The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain has filed a test case against the University of London that could broaden the trade union rights of outsourced workers.
• The Government Equalities Office has published a toolkit for employers giving advice on how to understand and address their gender pay gap, which sets out a four-step ‘to do’ list.
• The Equality and Human Rights Commission has written to Chairs of the FTSE 100 saying it will take legal action where there is evidence of systemic failing in preventing, or dealing with, sexual harassment.
