SM&B’s weekly employment law news update including:
– An employment tribunal decides that the dismissal of a Christian employee, for expressing a faith-based view that homosexuality is a sin, was directly and indirectly discriminatory.
– EOR’s survey of compensation awards in tribunals for successful discrimination claims in 2014 reveals that over £7½ million was awarded, which is a 77% increase on the previous year.
– Acas has published reports on its first year of Early Conciliation which show that it handled 83,000 cases of which 63% did not proceed to a tribunal claim and 15% resulted in a formal settlement.
– The TUC have published a guide covering the statutory rights that employers must provide to intended parents who are having a child through a surrogacy arrangement.
