Employment Law Weekly News Update – 4 October 2018

In this edition:

• A religious discrimination claim made by a Muslim teacher who posted offensive homophobic comments on WhatsApp has been rejected by an ET because his remarks had nothing to do with his religious beliefs.
• Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs achieved record National Minimum Wage enforcement results in 2017/18, identifying £15.6million of underpayments for more than 200,000 workers.
• The MoJ have published a set of tables for 2017 to 2018, providing a breakdown of the awards made by tribunals for unfair dismissal and discrimination, with the highest award being £415,227 for unfair dismissal.
• The Centre for Ageing Better has published a report ‘Becoming an age-friendly employer’, setting out practical steps for employers to create a more supportive, age-positive culture.
